UNDERFLOOR HEATING
Most people still see underfloor heating as something only the wealthy can have. Luckily, that is not the truth and more and more families are able to afford it. Underfloor heaters are so convenient and provide all the comfort you need throughout the cold months. Plus, this type of heating system saves a lot of space!
For example, when compared to radiators, underfloor heating will save you all of the wall space that radiators would normally take up. You will be able to arrange your furniture however you want without having to worry about the location of your radiators. Besides, underfloor heating provides a more “even” heating experience.
Different types of Underfloor Heating
There are two types of underfloor heating:
- Dry systems – These use electricity
- Wet Systems – These utilise water and are linked to the boiler
Dry systems are great, but can be very expensive to install and maintain as opposed to using a wet system connected to your boiler.
A wet system works by having pipes in the floor right under the main level. Hot water goes through these pipes, allowing it to warm up your house. You will, however, need a boiler that is powerful enough to sustain underfloor heating.
Installing a wet system to an old build house can be very complicated, since the entire floor will need removing to install the pipes. Therefore, most people usually decide to install wet systems in newly built houses only.
Dry underfloor heating systems, on the other hand, utilise a network of under floor wires. You will be able to choose between individual wires or heating mats.
Where can I use Underfloor heaters?
You can have underfloor heaters anywhere in your house. However, it is best to have them installed for either your ground floor or basement. The cost starts around £2,000 and varies depending on the size of your home. But believe us when we say that the investment will be well worth it, far more than having several radiators scattered around your property.
